To promote wood biomass production, use and market, CNVP has organized a two-days field visit for members of the working groups on wood biomass from several municipalities, with whom CNVP will be working at the local level to promote biomass energy. During the visit participants had the opportunity to exchange models and practices for the sustainable use of forest biomass.

The participants composed by the representatives of municipal directorates and representatives from Associations of Private Forest Owners had the opportunity to exchange experiences in the direction of forest rehabilitation, collection of wood mass, gridding into chips, transportation, innovative heating systems based on biomass, fast growing trees demonstrated for biomass production, as well as the collection point for supply with biomass for Gjakova heating system.

Multipurpose use of forest biomass is one of the main potentials to support economic growth and deliver local environmental services. Through the SUNREED project funded by Sweden, CNVP Kosovo is drafting a roadmap on wood biomass production and use which will guide the process of sustainable managed forests and support policies towards sustainable use of wood biomass for renewable energy.

At the end of the visit, working groups from municipalities presented recommendations which will feed the national forum, which will be established with the support of CNVP to provide coordination and support for the legal framework and policies on biomass production, use and marketing. The bottom-up approach to the use of forest biomass will help promotion of the wood biomass as an energy source at the national level.

According to participants this two-day field visit was very useful for them to better understand the potential of forests, including the use of biomass for energy, and confirmed their commitment to continue working with CNVP and Associations of Private Forest Owners for biomass production, use and marketing.
