CNVP presented results and methodology for growth of biomass and carbon sequestration, which was conducted during 2015-2022 in a workshop which brought together partners from public national institutions, municipalities, associations of private forest owners, NGO, National Parks and technical experts.

During the presentations, the results of pilot project on permanent sample plots were discussed and clarified with all stakeholders focusing on criteria of selection, methodology and the quantity of carbon sequestration and carbon storage. There are established 135 Permanent Sample Plots (PSP) in 18 cadastral zones in 14 municipalities of Kosovo; the land area covered by PSP is 15 879 ha, of which 9 194 ha are covered with forest cover; the stock of total biomass at the time of measurement was on average 87,262 m3/ha; carbon stored in biomass was at the level of 26.169 t/ha and the sequestered carbon dioxide (CO2) was at the level of: 94,478 t/ha.

The purpose of establishing these permanent sample plots is to initiate the process of carbon sequestration and carbon market with relevant institutions.

In this regard, in the framework of the SUNREED project funded by the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina/Sida, CNVP will work together with key stakeholders in the forestry sector on policy dialogue and drafting roadmaps for carbon market and wood biomass at the national level.

During the workshop were presented experiences of Albania on the carbon market, support schemes and carbon trading, by explaining the benefits that the rural community had from the carbon trade.
