CNVP has been supporting the development of mountain tea in Prespa National Park for more than 6 years by assisting producer groups to combine under one organisation, the Prespa Marketing Organisation (PMO). CNVP has supported PMO to agree on its establishment and cooperation procedures, develop marketing concepts, as well as organize and mobilise producers.

CNVP is working closely with producer groups to improve the production, marketing and understanding of mountain tea cultivation. CNVP has been supporting producers to improve seeding, seedlings, trans-planting, planting maintenance, collection, drying, packaging and marketing. CNVP has organised information meetings with producer groups, raised awareness and organized training to enhance the land with cultivated mountain tea by involving more families. Further, CNVP has helped producers to understand and agree upon the development and management of mountain tea cultivation, in order to ensure improved product quality and quantity for traders and consumers.

CNVP has supported more than 100 farmers to date compared to 8 families in 2010. Production is now more than 50 tons per year (an average of 0.5ton/family) compared with 1 ton/year in 2010. Income from mountain tea is now 2,000-3,000 Euro/family which is higher than alternative agriculture production in the same area. In addition, both the biodiversity and ecosystem inside the Prespa National Park have been improved by decreasing the uncontrolled collection of wild mountain tea.

These activities have been supported through the Sida-funded project Forests for Local Economic Development that is being implemented by CNVP Albania.
