Climate journalism workshop

There is very little knowledge about climate issues among general population and there is an increasing need to inform public in Macedonia about climate change and raise awareness about human and institutional capacity on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning.

To achieve this we need traditional media in the country writing about climate and environmental issues.

Objectives:

  • To raise awareness among Macedonian citizens about the importance of tackling climate change issues in all sectors, and at all levels of decision-making, as a crucial input to achieving a successful EU accession process.
  • Train interested working journalists, young writers and bloggers how to communicate climate issues to general public in the country.

The topics to be covered during this training are:

  • Science of Climate change,
  • Climate negotiations,
  • How to follow the negotiations without getting lost,
  • Writing a story pitch and contacting editors,
  • Reporting from the negotiations through social media,
  • Connecting national and regional issues with climate change and
  • Webinars as a valuable tool in climate negotiations.

All sessions will include practical examples and exercises and all participants will try to report on climate related event and report live on social media.
