Today, ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐จ๐ฏ๐จ, in cooperation with the ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐๐ข๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ค, celebrates Chestnut Day, honoring one of the most treasured natural resources in the Dukagjini region – the chestnut!
Chestnut Day brings the community together to celebrate a tradition rich in natural, cultural and economic value.
The ๐๐ฎ๐ค๐๐ ๐ฃ๐ข๐ง๐ข region is home to approximately ๐,๐๐๐ ๐ก๐๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ง๐ฎ๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ. These forests need continued restoration and sustainable management, alongside better opportunities for collecting and marketing chestnuts.
Through the ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ฉ๐ซ๐จ๐ฃ๐๐๐ญ, funded by the ๐๐ฆ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฌ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐๐๐๐ง ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ (Sida), CNVP Kosovo supports the Municipality of Junik, farmers, collectors and local businesses in revitalising chestnut forests and strengthening a more sustainable chestnut value chain.
One concrete example is CNVPโs support in the establishment of a ๐๐ก๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ง๐ฎ๐ญ ๐๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐ฉ๐จ๐ข๐ง๐ญ in ๐๐๐๐๐ฃ ๐ข ๐๐จ๐ค๐ฬ๐ฌ in 2025, benefitting around 30 chestnut collectors , creating better opportunities for collection, trade and local income.
Investing in chestnuts means investing in nature, tradition, livelihoods and stronger rural communities.
CNVP congratulates everyone participating in and contributing to Chestnut Day and remains committed to protecting this valuable natural resource and supporting its sustainable development.
