On 8–9 July, CNVP Skopje successfully organized a two-day workshop on integrated forest management and the afforestation of erosion-prone areas in Struga, North Macedonia. The event was held within the framework of the regional project “Integrated Forest Management along the Drin River Basin.”
The project is implemented by CNVP Skopje in cooperation with CNVP Albania, CNVP Montenegro, and CNVP Kosovo, in partnership with ICEP – Association for Global Development, with financial support from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA).
The workshop brought together forestry engineers, experts, and practitioners from across the region to strengthen their knowledge of integrated forest management and modern approaches to afforestation and the rehabilitation of degraded and erosion-prone land through presentations, technical discussions, and the exchange of experiences.
The primary objective of the workshop was to raise awareness of the importance of integrated forest management, promote measures to improve the condition of forest ecosystems, and present good practices for afforestation in erosion-prone areas. The event also provided a platform for participants to exchange experiences and discuss sustainable solutions that contribute to the protection of natural resources, the reduction of land degradation, and the enhancement of forest resilience to climate change.
During the first day, participants attended two thematic workshops followed by productive discussions:
- Workshop 1: Improving Forest Conditions through Integrated Forest Management.
- Workshop 2: Afforestation of Erosion-Prone Areas.
The second day focused on practical approaches to forest restoration and erosion control through two additional workshops:
- Workshop 3: Selection of Appropriate Plant Species for Anti-Erosion Afforestation.
- Workshop 4: Measures for Erosion Prevention and Control.
Through these four thematic sessions, participants explored the latest scientific knowledge, practical experiences, and innovative approaches to sustainable forest management. The workshop strengthened regional cooperation and facilitated the exchange of best practices, contributing to the protection, restoration, and long-term sustainable management of forest ecosystems throughout the Drin River Basin.
