CNVP Kosovo started implementing a new five-year project "Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development (SUNREED)", funded by the Embassy of Sweden in Prishtina/Sida.

| Project purpose | The primary objective of the CNVP-SUNREED project is to contribute to poverty reduction through the creation of additional income and jobs derived from forest products such as wood biomass, Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFP) including Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs), and carbon sequestration, backed up by an enabling policy environment and sustainable service provision. |
| Main outputs: | Main project outputs: – Enhance private forest owners’ (PFOs) capacity-building by facilitating access to knowledge, services, and finance to manage forests sustainably and navigate market systems. – Support sustainable service delivery to PFOs and farmers by building capacities of forest producer associations – NAPFO and APFOs. – Promote the development of the wood biomass market system by supporting the policy environment, establishing collection points, promoting wood biomass heating systems, and disseminating knowledge about wood biomass markets. – Support income generation activities in the non-wood forest products sector of farmers and collectors, with a focus on supporting women and youth producer groups (WYPG). |
| Main outcomes: | The project outcomes can be divided into two major outcomes: 1. Improved forest management and market engagement through the increased engagement of households in market systems (increasing income generation opportunities), with at least five policy documents for forest management developed, leading to the revitalization and sustainable management of 4,500 hectares of forest area. 2. Established the wood biomass market system by establishing up to 10 heating systems based on wood biomass, replacing significant amounts of fossil fuels and firewood. This includes the finalisation of a roadmap for wood biomass and the establishment of biomass collection points, ultimately increasing the biomass produced by PFOs. |
