Workshop on biomass production and use of renewable energy
On 23 November 2018, CNVP Kosovo organized a workshop concerning local initiatives for biomass production and the use of renewable energy. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD), the Ministry of Economic Development (MED), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Sharri National Park, donor organizations (USAID, GIZ, and ADA), the National Association of Private Forestry Owners (NAPFO) and private wood processing companies. Six municipalities involved in preparing case studies on biomass production and the use of renewable energy also participated.
A presentation on renewable energy sources in Kosovo and the role of biomass was presented by MED, whilst information on business advice was presented by the EBRD representative. An external consultant from Austria outlined innovative approaches for increasing biomass production and using it to generate energy as a way of mitigating climate change. The workshop also discussed the case studies, as well as capacity building recommendations for the various stakeholders involved in Kosovo’s renewable energy value chain.
The event was supported through the SIDA-funded project Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralized Forestry that is being implemented by CNVP Kosovo.
