On 15th and16th October 2020, CNVP held a two days training for GIS techniques and expert systems as a tool for improved forest management planning. The training was part of planned activities in the project “Generating momentum on water and forests in the Balkans - Balkans GeM”, funded by Deutsche Bundesstiftung Umwelt (DBU) and implemented by the Research Institute for Forest Ecology and Forestry (FAWF) and Connecting Natural Values and People Foundation (CNVP).

The training objective was knowledge delivering to key actors in the forestry sector in North Macedonia through an interactive training to reach the best impact on SFM, including aspects of integrated water and forest management through GIS techniques and expert systems as a tool for improved forest management planning

Participants in the training were employees of the National Forests – sector for forest planning. Their everyday engagement includes inventory and production of forest management plans for the National Forests who are managing forests in state ownership for economic purposes.

The next project steps are in the direction of raising awareness activities on the protection of the environment in general and watershed management especially to mitigate flooding eroded areas.
