Meetings with the Administration of Protected Areas in Kukes and Tropoja
On 17 and 18 May 2023, CNVP Albania organised meetings with the Administration of Protected Areas in Kukes and Tropoja in the framework of PONT funded project “Sustainable use of natural resources for transboundary socio-economic development of protected areas in North Macedonia and Albania (Korab-Koritnik, Sharr and Albanian Alps).
The aim of the meetings was the identification of main interventions for nature conservation and local economic development in Korab Koritnik Protected Area and the Albanian Alps related to:
Biodiversity;
- Identification of critical threats on biodiversity affected by the ongoing developments, management strategies and climate change.
- Establishing new Sustainable Use practices relevant to biodiversity protection.
NTFPs and MAPs;
- Evidencing NTFPs/MAPs with high benefits at the target areas and their potential for organic cultivation at farm level.
- Local economic development through application of new systems and practices for reducing the pressure on wild MAPs and living in harmony with nature.
Nature Based Tourism;
- Identification and analysis of current touristic potential/sites (cultural and natural) in these Protected Areas.
- Increasing revenue to local stakeholders through new products and services for nature-based tourism.
CNVP is supporting the preparation of studies on Biodiversity protection, NTFPs /MAPs and Nature Based Tourism in the Korab Koritnik and Albanian Alps which will guide the identification and prioritisation of the most efficient interventions.
