Training on sustainable harvesting of NWFPs and MAPs in Sharri Region
On 26 May 2023, CNVP Kosovo organized a one-day training on sustainable harvesting of NWFPs and MAPs in order to enhance the skills and knowledge of key stakeholders involved in the project by targeting key stakeholders/beneficiaries from Kosovo and North Macedonia, mainly from Sharri region. This training is organized in the framework of the project "Sustainable Future for Sharr/Korab-Koritnik" financed by DBU, Jensen-Funds and Euronatur .The project aims to foster sustainable regional development addressing biodiversity threats in the Sharr/Korab-Koritnik region, while an analysis (study) is being conducted for sustainable collection of Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFP) and the cultivation of Medicinal Aromatic Plants (MAPs) in the Sharr/Korab/Koritnik region (Kosovo, Albania, Macedonia).
During the training sessions, participants gained insights into various aspects of sustainable collection techniques, including best practices for NWFP and AMP cultivation and knowledge necessary for sustainable collection practices, biodiversity conservation, and land preservation.
Local expert engaged for the preparation of the study shared their expertise, highlighting the importance of sustainable harvesting methods and the potential of MAPs in promoting local economies.
The training program also provided an opportunity for participants to go out at the field to visit the plantations with NWFP and also exchange ideas, experiences and challenges related to sustainable collection and cultivation practices while fostering a platform for networking and collaboration among stakeholders from Kosovo, Albania and Macedonia by strengthening regional cooperation for a shared sustainable future.
