Today, on June 5th at "Vellezerit Frasheri" Elementary School, in Lipjan a true testament of the spirit of World Environment Day, took place.  This year, the theme focused on beating plastic pollution, highlighting the urgent need to tackle the growing threat posed by plastic waste. Through the collaborative efforts CNVP in the framework of the SUNREED project, in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure of Kosovo and the  organized an awareness event with the aim to fostered a sense of responsibility and ownership among the youth and the community.

The event began with the school's director Mr.Jakup Bahtiri, who served as the host and the first keynote speaker. He addressed the students, emphasizing the importance of environmental conservation and the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health. His speech resonated with the young audience, setting the tone for an inspiring and educational day ahead.

Following the director's speech, the CNVP adviser presented the organization's mission and objectives, shedding light on the significance of sustainable environmental practices. They emphasized the critical role that tree planting plays in mitigating the adverse impacts of plastic pollution.

To further engage the students, a series of presentations were given by the students themselves. They showcased their research and findings on plastic pollution, land pollution and water pollution, demonstrating their understanding of the issue and sharing ideas on how to combat it effectively. The presentations ranged from solutions to reduce single-use plastic consumption to advocating for recycling and waste management practices.

After an enlightening session of presentations, it was time to put theory into action. The participants, including the students, teachers, representatives from CNVP and APFO, gathered outside to commence the tree planting activity. By planting trees, the participants not only took a step towards beautifying their surroundings but also acknowledged the importance of promoting a sustainable future.

In addition to the event at "Vellezerit Frasheri" ElementarySchool, World Environment Day, in partnership with Association of Private Forest Owners (APFO) Pashtriku, was also celebrated at Anton Ceta Elementary School in Dol-Gjakova. The students and teachers engaged in a special project, designing a miniaturized, self-sustaining ecosystem in a glass container. This unique ecosystem mimicked the natural environment for plant growth, providing a hands-on learning experience for the students.

As we reflect on this event, let us remember that beating plastic pollution requires a collective commitment. Each small action, from reusable bags and water bottles to sorting and recycling, counts towards making a positive impact on our environment. Together, we can create a world free from plastic pollution and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
