CNVP Participates in High-Level Joint Annual Review of Kosovo's Forestry Sector
On June 15, 2023, CNVP took part in the Joint Annual Review of the Forestry Sector in Kosovo. This event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development (MAFRD), the European Commission, and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), aiming to discuss the current situations, challenges, and priorities for the sustainable development of the forest sector in Kosovo.
The meeting was honored by the presence of notable individuals, including Mr. Faton Peci, the Minister of MAFRD; Ms. Fitore Pacolli, the head of the Parliamentary group for Agriculture and Environment; Mr. Jonas B. Westerlund, the Ambassador of the Embassy of Sweden in Prishtina; Mr. Alessandro Bianciardi, Deputy Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, and representatives from FAO.
The primary topics covered during the meeting revolved around the promotion of the new law on the forestry sector and the level of implementation of the forestry strategy (2022-2030) and policies within the sector.
During the joint meeting Mr.Xhevat Lushi, the CNVP Country Director of Kosovo, presented the organizations’ activities and achievements in several projects, namely the “Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development” (SUNREED); “Sustainable Future for Sharr – Korab/Koritnik” and “Integrated Forest Management Along Drini River Basin”. These projects have made significant contributions to poverty reduction, improved livelihoods, and the sustainable management of forests. They have also played a crucial role in wood biomass production for renewable energy, including the development of NWFPs’ and MAPs’.
The Joint Annual Review of the Forestry Sector in Kosovo serves as a vital platform for dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences. By gathering key stakeholders, also from Civil Society Organizations’, NPFOA and private sector it fosters a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by the forestry sector.
