Sustainable Future: CNVP Workshop on Carbon Sequestration and Biomass Growth
The recently concluded workshop held on December 7, 2023, was a significant milestone of the SUNREED project, with the aim of delving into the world of carbon sequestration and biomass growth.
The workshop's objectives were presented by the Natural Resources Management Advisor, outlining the importance of the gathering and so setting the stage for a day of insightful discussions. The role of forests in climate change, methods for inventorying and monitoring carbon stock in managed forests, and the presentation of database results from current measurements were expertly covered by the Natural Resources Management Advisor and the local expert.
Interactive sessions were the highlight of the workshop, allowing participants to engage in lively discussions and pose questions. The latter part of the day featured simulations, including the elevation of Permanent Sample Plots (PSP) for monitoring carbon dioxide sequestration through the addition of woody biomass in managed forests. The simulations provided a hands-on understanding of the methodologies discussed earlier in the day.
The closure of the workshop included the presentation of results, formulation of recommendations and emphasizing the importance of applying sustainable practices in carbon sequestration. Additionally, CNVP Kosovo provided valuable roadmap on navigating the carbon market, empowering participants to apply their newfound knowledge in real-world scenarios. The workshop was not just a forum for learning but a collaborative effort towards unlocking the potential of carbon sequestration and biomass growth in Kosovo for a more sustainable future.
