CNVP Albania is implementing the project “Sustainable use of natural resources for transboundary socio-economic development of protected areas in Albania and North Macedonia (Korab-Koritnik, Shar and Albanian Alps)” with financial support from PONT. One of the specific objectives of this project is “Nature-based tourism (NBT) in Sharr; Korab-Koritnik and Albanian Alps protected areas contributes to both nature conservation and local community development”. CNVP is reaching this objective by operating a grant scheme targeting local CSOs, farmers and businesses active in the target Protected Areas where a total number of 19 project beneficiaries are being supported.

Building infrastructure is an essential part of developing tourism in these areas and we are happy to support partnering organizations in implementing their projects. One of the project grantees is “Horizont Plus” organization established and operating in Tropoja municipality.  

Horizont Plus organization is implementing the project "Opening the trail Gryka e Motines-Maja e Hekurave" in the national park of the Albanian Alps, Valbona valley. The length of this trail is 4.2 km.

From the field monitoring of the works, it results that the trail has been entirely cleaned as per the planned length, three informative boards have been installed, as well as orientation signs have been placed every 400-meter.

Adhering to high technical standards for the opening of this trail brings more security for visitors who will choose to hike through the “Gryka e Motines -Maja e Hekurave" trail in Valbona valley.

Nature-based tourism in protected areas can improve local economies, reduce poverty, and help to develop the rural areas. Protected areas are among the most beautiful areas in the countries and first choices for many tourists and nature lovers. However, sustainable use of PA for tourism purposes   is equally important by having clear tourism Action Plans, developing tourism products and services as well as building capacities of rural communities and local businesses to offer tourisms services and building the infrastructure considering the habitats and biodiversity protection.
