On November 1st, CNVP Kosovo held an engaging workshop focused on the principles of the circular economy within the forest sector, bringing together private forest owners and stakeholders.
The circular economy is an economic model aimed at minimizing waste and making the most of resources by maintaining their value in the economy for as long as possible.
This approach is important for enhancing biodiversity, mitigating climate change, and promoting sustainable resource management in our forests.
During the workshop, participants explored:
- The basic principles of the circular economy and its legal framework
- Examples of contributions by CNVP Kosovo and its SUNREED project
- The environmental benefits, such as improved carbon circulation and reduced harmful emissions
- The economic benefits, including job creation, new business opportunities, and sustainable production practices
In group sessions, participants identified potential activities for implementing circular economy principles within private forests. They brainstormed strategies for biomass management, organic waste, and cooperation among sectors, with the aim to develop action plans for sustainable practices.
With 35 participants, including members from private forest owners' associations, youth and women groups, biodiversity advocates, and wood processing companies, the workshop shared and generated valuable insights.
This initiative is part of the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development (SUNREED) project, supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina (Sida).
