CNVP Albania Organizes Tree Planting Day in Ana e Malit to Promote Sustainable Forest Management
Recognizing the crucial role forests play in sustaining ecosystems and supporting local economies, CNVP Albania organised a successful tree planting event in Ana e Malit, Shkodër on 6 November 2024. This initiative is part of the larger "Integrated Forest Management along the Drini River Basin" project and aims to restore degraded forest areas in the Western Balkans through sustainable forestry practices.
Forests are vital for regulating water cycles, protecting biodiversity, and providing essential ecosystem services. However, they are under growing pressure from land degradation, unsustainable practices, and the escalating impacts of climate change. CNVP Foundation is addressing these challenges head-on by introducing integrated forest management practices throughout the Western Balkans, which help restore degraded areas, support local communities, and contribute to climate resilience.
A Collaborative Effort for Forest Restoration
The event was attended by representatives from the Austrian Development Agency, National Forest Agency, the Forest Faculty, Forests Federation Shkodër ,Forestry High School Shkodër, local associations, and stakeholders from Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Montenegro. Together, participants planted numerous seedlings, contributing to a total of 40,000 trees that will be afforested over 22 hectares in both Ana e Malit, Shkodër, and Qerret, Puka during the project period. This action not only advances the goals of the IFM project but also aligns with the Albanian Year of Forests initiative, underscoring the importance of forest conservation in Albania’s national agenda.
Restoring Forests for a Sustainable Future
Afforestation efforts such as this contribute to a range of ecological benefits, from soil stabilization and erosion control to creating habitats for wildlife and enhancing carbon sequestration. The newly planted trees will help revive previously degraded forest lands, supporting biodiversity and providing long-term economic opportunities for local communities. By fostering sustainable forestry practices, CNVP Albania is helping to build a future where forest resources are managed responsibly for the benefit of current and future generations.
CNVP Foundation remains committed to expanding its forest management initiatives and strengthening partnerships with regional and international stakeholders to achieve sustainable natural resource management. With projects like these, CNVP aims to inspire lasting change, cultivate resilient ecosystems, and pave the way for greener, healthier communities across the Western Balkans.
