Exciting News for the Beekeeping and Agroforestry Community in Kosovo
We are happy to announce a new partnership agreement signed between CNVP Kosovo and Bletaria Etniki.
This collaboration aims to elevate the local beekeeping and agroforestry sectors, supporting practices that are sustainable and enhancing economic opportunities for rural households.
Bletaria Etniki, a family-run beekeeping business established in 2019, has been making advances in honey production, education, and managing a small chestnut plantation. With around 200 beehives, the Shala family is committed to expanding their plantation and improving honey packaging to meet market demands.
This partnership will see the expansion of their chestnut plantation from 0.50 ha to 1 ha, allowing for better bee nutrition and improved honey quality.
The following actions will take place:
- Invest in new packaging equipment to enhance the market appeal of the honey product.
- Conduct educational trainings about beekeeping and non-wood forest products (NWFPs) for schoolchildren, encouraging the next generation to learn and understand what sustainable agriculture is.
- Increase honey production capacity and market access, benefiting not just Etniki but the entire local economy.
The support from CNVP Kosovo through the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development (SUNREED) project, funded by the Swedish Embassy in Prishtina (Sida), will provide the necessary technical assistance, ensuring that these initiatives lead to increased income for the family and broader benefits for the community.
This work will not only strengthen local beekeeping practices but also promote biodiversity and environmental sustainability in Kosovo!
