Sustainable Wood Utilization: A Boost for Kosovo's Beekeeping Sector
Kosovo’s beekeeping sector is set to thrive with an innovative approach to sustainable forestry and beekeeping. At the heart of this new initiative is the use of non-quality forest wood, turning it into high-value beehive frames. This strategy not only enhances the value of local wood resources but also supports Private Forest Owners (PFOs) and sawmills, promoting sustainable wood utilization while indirectly boosting the beekeeping industry.
We are excited to announce a partnership between CNVP Kosovo and Genc Cakaj's individual business, aimed at advancing Kosovo’s beekeeping sector. With approximately 7,500 beekeepers managing 250,000 beehives, this industry plays a vital role in supporting the local economy and environment.
Since its founding in 2017, Genc Cakaj’s company has grown from a small family operation into a leader in producing high-quality beekeeping equipment. This partnership will enable the company to modernize the production of beehive frames, reducing dependency on imports and creating local jobs.
As part of this initiative, the company will also establish black loctus tree plantations, which will support honey production and provide a sustainable source of wood for beekeeping materials. By fostering efficient wood use and benefiting local suppliers, this project strengthens the entire sector while enhancing environmental sustainability.
The support is part of the Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development (SUNREED) project, implemented by CNVP Kosovo and funded by the Swedish Embassy in Prishtina (Sida).
We’re proud to support this forward-looking initiative that enhances Kosovo’s beekeeping industry, creates jobs, and promotes eco-friendly practices!
