Rehabilitation of Beech Forest in Dragash through IFM
The rehabilitation of beech forests in the Municipality of Dragash has officially begun through the implementation of integrated forest management IFM measures.
This intervention aims to create a sustainable forest management model by combining silvicultural treatments that enhance the structure and quality of the trees within the forest.
As part of this effort, in cooperation with the Kosovo Forestry Agency, a practical training was held focusing on beech forest treatments, thinning techniques, and the methodology behind IFM.
The training participants included staff from the Association of Private Forest Owners "Guri i Zi," the Kosovo Forestry Agency (KFA), Regional Directorate of KFA in Prizren, the Municipality of Dragash, and private forest owners.
They received first-hand information about thinning beech forests, improving wood quality, boosting biodiversity, enhancing resilience, accelerating tree growth, reducing fire risks, and supporting the local economy.
This activity is part of the Integrated Forest Management (IFM) project, funded by the Austrian Development Agency and implemented by ICEP - weltweit mehr unternehmen and the CNVP Foundation.
Together, we’re working towards a balanced approach that promotes both forest conservation and local economic growth.
