The CNVP Albania Foundation organized a working meeting with the local NGO “Gjelbërimi” in the city of Puka, to discuss the implementation of the project “Support for the development of ecotourism in the Munella Ecological Corridor.” This initiative focuses on promoting nature-based and sustainable tourism in one of the most important natural areas in northern Albania.

The Munella Ecological Corridor is a region with extraordinary biodiversity. It contains many different ecosystems and is home to various species of flora and fauna, some of them endemic and some endangered. Even with its rich natural and cultural values, the area still remains quite unknown to the general public. With the growing interest in sustainable tourism, this project aims to bring more attention to Munella and to turn it into a responsible and attractive tourist destination.

The main goal of the project is to increase awareness about the ecological importance of the Munella corridor, while also promoting development practices that help to protect nature. A key part of the project is the full involvement of local communities. The project encourages them to grow economically through sustainable use of their natural resources. It represents a mutually beneficial model, where local communities gain from the sustainable use of natural resources, while the surrounding environment is preserved and safeguarded for the future.

As part of the activities, the project will produce a tourist guide for the area. This guide will include practical information for visitors, such as nature trails, maps, descriptions of the local biodiversity and landscapes, as well as cultural attractions and options for food and accommodation offered by local families and businesses. The aim is to help visitors discover Munella in a safe and respectful way, while also giving support to the local economy.

Through this project, CNVP Albania and its sub-grantee are also working to raise awareness about the ecological and cultural importance of the Munella corridor, especially in the territory of the Puka Municipality. At the same time, it is promoting the idea that ecotourism can be a successful way for sustainable development. By encouraging more community participation and helping local businesses to grow in harmony with the environment, the project hopes to transform Munella into a future ecotourism destination.

This initiative, funded by PONT (Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust) and implemented by CNVP Albania, shows how nature protection and rural economic development can go together. Through responsible tourism and community cooperation, the Munella Ecological Corridor can be preserved and appreciated by both locals and visitors.
