Local Tree Production for Clean Energy and Industry

Last week, as part of the SUNREED project (Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development), we conducted a field visit together with local and international experts who are supporting the development of fast-growing tree (FGT) plantations and nursery production.
The first stop was in the Isniq village of Decan municipality, where we monitored a poplar plantation established last year. The good news is that the trees are thriving and showing strong potential for clean energy and sustainable wood supply.
The highlight of the visit was in Dobrushe village in Istog municipality, where a local nursery — developed through a partnership between CNVP and a local private company — is producing high-quality poplar cuttings. With the owner’s background in fruit tree cultivation, the nursery has quickly progressed from basic cuttings to growing strong, healthy seedlings.
The good results show excellent plant health and growth. This means that more farmers will soon have access to high quality, locally grown seedlings, opening new opportunities for income generation and environmentally friendly development in rural areas.
This is an initiative of the SUNREED project (Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development), implemented by CNVP Kosovo and financed by the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina (Sida).
