Mechanization Bringing Stability to Lavender Farming in Kushovë
In the village of Kushovë, Gramsh, Kujtim Shaliu cultivates 5 hectares of lavender, positioning himself as one of the leading farmers in the area. Lavender farming is not just an individual activity for him, it has become a family-driven enterprise, with all members actively involved in the cultivation and management of the farm.
Like many farmers in rural areas of Albania, Kujtim faced a major challenge: the lack of agricultural labor and the rising cost of manual work. Limited mechanization made processes such as ploughing, planting, irrigation, harvesting and plant thinning time-consuming and expensive.
Through the support of the LED Project, Kujtim invested in farm mechanization. This investment has significantly reduced production costs, increased efficiency and improved overall farm management.
Beyond strengthening his own business, Kujtim aims to support other farmers in the area by providing mechanized services for key agricultural processes required in lavender cultivation. His investment is not only improving productivity at farm level, but also contributing to stronger collaboration and development within the local agricultural community.
Local Economic Development (LED) project is funded by Sweden and implemented by CNVP Foundation in Albania.
More efficiency. Lower costs. Stronger rural businesses.
