Restoring Forests, Rebuilding Hope: CNVP Launches Afforestation Initiative in Gramsh
CNVP Albania has launched a new afforestation initiative in Gramsh Municipality aimed at restoring forest areas damaged by recent fires and strengthening climate resilience in the region.
The intervention, supported by Raiffeisen Invest, focuses on the rehabilitation of degraded land in the administrative unit of Skënderbegas, within the forest block known as “Dushku i Bulcarit”. This area has been heavily affected by forest fires in recent years, reflecting a broader national challenge where thousands of hectares of forest land have been damaged, threatening biodiversity, increasing erosion risks, and weakening ecosystem stability .
Through this project, CNVP Albania will restore approximately 5 hectares of affected land by planting 10,000 black pine (Pinus nigra) seedlings. The planting will follow a structured scheme designed to ensure optimal growth and long-term sustainability of the forest.
Beyond tree planting, the initiative contributes to multiple environmental and socio-economic objectives. It supports climate change mitigation through carbon sequestration, helps prevent soil erosion, and improves biodiversity by restoring natural habitats. At the same time, the project engages local communities by creating employment opportunities during the planting phase and strengthening local capacities in modern afforestation techniques.
The implementation builds on CNVP Albania’s long-standing experience in forest restoration and sustainable land management. Over the years, CNVP has supported the rehabilitation of degraded areas across the country, combining technical expertise with community-based approaches and partnerships with local institutions .
This initiative in Gramsh reflects CNVP’s continued commitment to linking environmental restoration with community development. By restoring degraded landscapes, the project not only contributes to a healthier ecosystem but also lays the foundation for more resilient rural livelihoods.
As climate pressures increase, targeted interventions such as this are essential to protect natural resources and ensure sustainable development for future generations.
This initiative is funded by Raiffeisen Invest and implemented by CNVP Foundation in Albania.
