Advancing Joint Efforts in Environmental Protection with Kosovo Ministry of Environment
Today CNVP Kosovo we had the pleasure of holding a very productive meeting with Kosovo’s Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Ms. Fitore Pacolli, where we discussed advancing cooperation in the field of forestry and environmental protection in Kosovo.
During the meeting, CNVP presented its ongoing activities and achievements, with a particular focus on the regional project "Integraged Forest Management Along the Drin River Basin." This project is being implemented by CNVP and is financially supported by the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and the Global Development Association (ICEP), with additional support from Lenzing AG. The project aims to address climate change challenges, promote sustainable forest management, and support regional economic development in the transboundary Drin River basin area.
A key point of discussion was the planned rehabilitation of a degraded area near the Erenik River in Bishtazhin (Gjakova), through afforestation with suitable fast-growing tree species. This intervention is designed to serve as a model for restoring degraded land along riverbanks across Kosovo.
Furthermore, CNVP presented its activities under the projects being implemented in National Parks, such as the European Green Belt project “Vital Pastures in Transboundary Sharr/Korab/Koritnik/Mavrovo”, financially supported by the Aage V. Jensen Charity Foundation and the Nando & Elsa Peretti Foundation, and other partners EURONATUR from Germany, PPNEA from Albania and MES from North Macedonia. As well as the “Shaping the Future of the Bjeshkët e Nemuna Region”, financially supported by the DBU (German Federal Environmental Foundation) and Hans Wilsdorf foundation, implemented by CNVP Kosovo with NACCON GmbH as the cooperation partner.
We also highlighted the importance of community engagement, long-term monitoring, and raising environmental awareness as essential components for the success and sustainability of such initiatives.
CNVP Kosovo expresses its appreciation for the Minister’s openness and commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to a healthier environment and sustainable development. We look forward to strengthening institutional cooperation and achieving tangible impact on the ground.
