CNVP Restores Forest Life in Montenegro through the IFM Project
In several forest areas of Montenegro, young reforested plots recently faced an unexpected setback. Prolonged drought weakened newly planted seedlings, while late frost caused additional damage. Areas that had been carefully restored risked losing years of progress within a single season.
CNVP Foundation responded with a precise, field‑based intervention within the framework of the Integrated Forest Management Along the Drin River Basin (IFM) Project, supported by International Partnerships Austria. Rather than allowing previous investments to decline, CNVP coordinated a targeted replanting action to secure the continuity of these forest stands and keep restoration efforts on track.
During this reporting period, 1,000 pine seedlings and 100 spruce seedlings were planted to replace those that had failed. The intervention focused on maintaining planting density, preserving the integrity of the plots, and ensuring that the forest ecosystem can continue developing according to the original restoration plan.
The activity was implemented by Taxus Forest in close cooperation with the forestry administration, local community representatives, and private forest owners. This multi‑stakeholder collaboration reflects CNVP’s operational approach in the region—connecting technical expertise, institutions, and local actors around practical environmental solutions.
Through the IFM Project, CNVP’s role goes beyond financial support. The organization ensures that field actions are well coordinated, technically sound, and locally supported. By systematically replacing damaged seedlings, CNVP strengthens forest resilience, contributes to biodiversity protection, and safeguards the long‑term value of reforestation efforts that are closely linked to rural livelihoods.
A second phase of planting is planned for early October. This continuation will further reinforce the restored plots and support the gradual recovery and stability of the forest landscape.
Operating across the Western Balkans in forestry, biodiversity, and sustainable rural development, CNVP Foundation is recognized for translating projects into visible, measurable results on the ground. This replanting effort in Montenegro is a clear example of CNVP’s direct contribution to restoring ecosystems and ensuring that environmental investments deliver lasting impact.
This activity is funded by the Austrian Development Agency as part of International Partnerships Austria, initiated by ICEP – weltweit mehr unternehmen, and implemented by CNVP Foundation.
