Shaping the Future of Sustainable Tourism in Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park
On 18–19 June 2026, CNVP Kosovo, in cooperation with the Directorate for the Management of Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park – Peja Office, organized a two-day workshop on “Sustainable Tourism Development in Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park.”
The event brought together representatives of public institutions, local stakeholders, tourism operators, civil society organizations and development partners to discuss opportunities and challenges related to sustainable tourism development in the park.
The first day of the workshop, held in Peja, focused on mapping existing tourism initiatives, identifying key stakeholders and discussing the current situation, challenges and opportunities for sustainable tourism in the national park. Participants presented ongoing projects and initiatives, while interactive discussions explored shared objectives for balancing economic development with nature conservation and clarified the roles and responsibilities of different stakeholders.
The second day, held in Istog, concentrated on practical planning and future actions. Participants identified potential pilot initiatives that could support sustainable tourism development, explored available funding opportunities and financial resources, and discussed priority actions and recommendations.
Special attention was given to the role of the National Park in actively supporting sustainable tourism through improved coordination and stakeholder engagement.
The workshop concluded with an agreement on key follow-up actions and responsibilities, strengthening cooperation among stakeholders and laying the foundation for future initiatives that promote sustainable tourismm while preserving the unique natural and cultural values of Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park.
This workshop was organized within ongoing efforts to support participatory management, sustainable local development and the long-term conservation of one of Kosovo’s most valuable protected areas.
