Forest products’ fair in Prizren
CNVP in Kosovo supported the organization of a forest products’ fair in Prizren, working in collaboration with the National Association of Private Forest Owners (NAPFO) and FINCH Kosovo (an NGO established for the protection of nature and birds). Held on 22 November 2017, the event promoted the activities of producers’ groups that are part of the various Associations of Private Forest Owners (APFOs).
The fair gave APFO participants from Kacanik, Gjakova, Podujevo, Istog, Peja, Decani and Junik, as well as members of other NGOs, the opportunity to share their experiences of cultivating and promoting non-timber forest products (NTFPs). The fair also raised awareness about using forest resources for the development of NTFPs and eco-tourism, both of which have a positive impact on increasing rural incomes and improving the livelihoods of local rural communities.
The fair attracted many visitors who had the opportunity to see, taste and buy local products prepared by women’s producer groups, including medical herbs, honey, nuts, handicrafts, dairy products and brandy from forest fruits.
The event was supported through the SIDA-funded project, Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralized Forestry, being implemented by CNVP Kosovo. The project involves strengthening sustainable forest management, developing wood bio-mass for renewable energy, and supporting the development of rural businesses and supply chains that will improve rural incomes through improved cooperation amongst local and regional stakeholders.
