International Mountain Day (IMD) has been observed annually since 2003 to create awareness about the importance of mountains to life, and build global alliances.

IMD 2017 provides an occasion to highlight how climate, hunger and migration are affecting highland areas, and ensure that sustainable mountain development is integrated into the 2030 Agenda and in the implementation of the Paris Agreement.

Mountains under pressure: climate, hunger, migration is the theme of IMD 2017. This is linked to the Mountain Partnership Global Meeting to be held during 11-13 December 2017 at FAO’s headquarters in Rome. This will focus on the challenges and opportunities for sustainable mountain development, including the launch of a Framework for Action to support concrete activities and establish policies that strengthen the resilience of mountain peoples and their environments.

CNVP is a leading international civil society organisation that is active in all six Balkan countries. It uses evidence-based analysis to improve the sustainable livelihoods of rural communities, including those in mountain areas, that are affected by the ongoing process of environmental and climate change.

CNVP focusses on climate change mitigation measures and environmental impact assessments (EIAs), as well as disaster risk reduction (illegal logging and sand/gravel extraction, as well as soil erosion and excess flooding) and national/local food security.

CNVP is looking to identify CSOs active in the European Neighbourhood Space, the Caucasus and Turkey with which it can cooperate to build a greener economic environment, including improved sustainable forest management.
