Private forestry in Kosovo is considered as family forestry in which women play an important role. Women's groups that work within the local forestry associations are encouraging women to join, be represented and take decisions.

On 25 April 2018, a large number of women from almost all villages of Decani Municipality came together to establish a women's section. Facilitated by CNVP Kosovo and the National Association of Private Forest Owners, the section’s governing structure included the participation of women and youth in leading positions. This, the tenth women’s section established within local associations, will continue with activities related to sustainable forest management (farmer's forest, agroforestry), cultivation, processing and marketing of non-wood forest products for income-generation.

The event was supported through the Sida-funded project Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralised Forests that is being implemented by CNVP Kosovo.
