Pastures play a key role in the rural development of South Albania. They produce feed for the livestock, beautify the landscape, protect soil from erosion, and provide habitat for wildlife.

CNVP has been promoting improved pasture management by providing information and technical advice on: classification and description of pastures, assessment of pasture biomass and grazing capacity, improving pastures qualities, and construction of water-points for livestock.

One targeted area is Petran Administrative Unit in Permet Municipality, Gjirokastra Region. On 18 May 2018, CNVP invited staff from the Municipality and Administrative Unit, Regional Federation of Forest and Pasture Users, Forest and Pasture Users’ Association and shepherds to share experiences in pasture management, especially on improving pasture quality, increasing pasture carrying capacity, cleaning the pasture, and constructing water-points for livestock. CNVP also advised key stakeholders to improve pasture management by collecting fees and tariffs for re-investment in pastures.

This activity has been funded through the Forests for Local Economic Development project that is supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Tirana.
