CNVP Supports Wild Mountain Tea Cultivation in Prespa
Whilst wild mountain tea has been collected in considerable quantities in the Prespa National Park (PNP) area, it also has potential for cultivation as an alternative to wild collection. It also provides additional income for the local population. Cultivation must use best practice experience within the Prespa area.
On 6 June 2018, CNVP organized field training for a new producer group in Gorice Vogel village to raise its capacity and involve it in the Prespa Marketing Organisation (PMO). CNVP organized training on how to plant the land with mountain tea, as well as develop packaging and marketing. More than 30 families from Gorice Vogel village have planted mountain tea (1,000-4,000m2), increasing incomes by 1,500-2,500 euro/year/family. CNVP will continue to support the group in market research, as well as collection, packaging, marketing, labelling and certification with which to increase market price.
These activities have been supported through the Sida-funded project Forests for Local Economic Development that is being implemented by CNVP Albania.
