On 19 July 2018, CNVP Kosovo organized a workshop on the development of fast growing tree species. Participants included the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning, donor organizations, the National Association of Private Forestry Owners (NAPFO), private wood processing companies, academics and university students.

CNVP’s international expert, Borovics Attila from the Hungarian Forestry Research Institute in Sarvar, discussed the cultivation of fast growing tree species, including poplar, willow and Robinia pseudoacacia L. Cultivation of plantations using such trees contributes to the production of wood biomass for energy and industrial processing.  

The workshop discussed drafting a strategy to help government institutions reorganize the fast growing tree sector in Kosovo, at the same time as taking into consideration sustainable forest management, renewable energy, climate change and agro-forestry.

The event was supported through the SIDA-funded project Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralized Forestry that is being implemented by CNVP Kosovo.
