Strengthening women’s role in forestry, rural development and NWFP value chains
A national event was organised by CNVP Kosovo on 19 September 2018 in Prishtina to discuss the results and recommendations of a study on Women’s Role in Non-Wood Forest Product (NWFP) Value Chains and Decision Making Processes in Local Private Forestry Owner Associations.
The main findings of the study related to the economic and social aspects of NWFP value chains, linkages with other institutions, and networking. Further, the study reviewed the functioning of national and local associations, and the role of women in them (in terms of empowerment and leadership).
A representative of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development presented Measure 302 (farm diversification and business development) of Kosovo’s 2014-20 Agricultural and Rural Development Programme. Producer group success stories were used to emphasize the role of women and youth in NWFP value chains. The event also presented results of two earlier studies concerning (a) NWFP and economic development, and (b) NWFP policy and standards (for collection, drying, storage and transport).
The activity was organized through the Sida-funded project Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralized Forestry that is being implemented by CNVP Kosovo.
