Promotion of BiH Informational System for Nature Protection database
On 21 September 2018, CNVP BiH attended a promotional event for the basic database Informational System for Nature Protection. This was created as part of the sub-project Regional Biodiversity Information Managing and Reporting Network (BIMR) of the Open Regional Fund for South East Europe - Biodiversity (ORF-BD). Financed by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, it was supported by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and Ecology of Republika Srpska (RS). The promotion was organized in cooperation with the Federal Fund for Environmental Protection of BiH (FBiH) and the Republic Institute for the protection of cultural, historical and natural heritage of RS.
The maintenance of the database has been given to its two main beneficiaries – the FBiH Environmental Protection Fund and the Republic Institute for protection of the cultural, historical and natural heritage of RS.
The structure of the database has been regionally unified for Macedonia, Montenegro and BiH (both entities). Software tools such as REST WEB services and WEB pages were used, and the first data entry was made for selected endemic terrestrial plant and animal taxa of South East Europe (SEE). The database is based on Darwin Core, an international standard that includes a glossary of terms to facilitate the exchange of information on nature protection at global level.
Phase II of the BIMR project will continue to support further development of this database during 2018-20.
