Using biomass for renewable energy in Kosovo
On 27 September 2018, CNVP Kosovo held a workshop in Peja concerning the rational use of forests, and possibilities for the private sector to lead the way in producing renewable energy from biomass. Participants include representatives from private sector saw mills, pellet producers and forest owners, as well as from the Swedish Embassy.
CNVP’s expert, Christoph Aste from Austria, focused on biomass production for heating systems, case studies and recommendations. Discussion focused on (a) opportunities for, and challenges associated with, using renewable energy biomass to heat public buildings, and (b) the need for forest conservation, environmental clean-up and employment opportunities for the local community. Public Private Partnership (PPP) was seen as an opportunity for development of the sector.
The workshop was supported under the framework of Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralized Forestry, the Sida-funded project that is being implemented by CNVP Kosovo.
