On 23-24 October 2018, CNVP Macedonia contributed to the Regional Roundtable held in Skopje on The path towards Water, Energy, Food and Ecosystems Nexus in South Eastern Europe (SEE).

Unsustainable natural resources management (NRM) has affected directly and indirectly the region’s economic growth, human prosperity, environment and ecosystems. Despite several advances, NRM remains a substantial challenge.

The integrated Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus approach has been introduced into the NRM agenda, in order to:

  1. enhance water, energy and food security, whilst preserving ecosystems and their functions; and
  2. increase climate resilience by reducing trade-offs, shifting towards more sustainable consumption patterns/improved demand management, building synergies, and improving governance across sectors.

The Nexus approach supports the transition to a Green Economy which aims at improved resource use efficiency, as well as greater policy coherence towards reducing Green House Gas emissions and adaptation resilience.

CNVP has contributed since 2012 to the sustainable use of natural resources in the SEE region, and fully supports the Nexus approach.
