How can people living in Protected Areas in Albania be supported to create a better socio-economic life while protecting the biodiversity and living in harmony in nature?
CNVP Albania is implementing a PONT funded project “Promoting sustainable use of the natural resources, through provision and support to local communities for creating a better socio-economic life in harmony with nature” in the Protected Areas of Korab Kortinik and Albanian Alps. An MoU is signed with the Administration of Protected Areas in Shkoder for a successful implementation of this project. There are several activities which will be implemented in the framework of this project and are part of the MoU; however, the first ones relate to conducting a series of detailed studies on biodiversity, NTFPs with the highest economic benefits and tourism products/ services in the target Protected Areas. CNVP has selected three national consultants to conduct the detailed studies.
On 19 January 2023, CNVP Albania organised a joint meeting with the selected national consultants, and the Administration of the Protected Areas in Shkoder with the aim of establishing contacts, sharing work plans and methodologies for undertaking the detailed studies. Both parties will work in close collaboration so that information is properly gathered/shared and the recommendations provided accordingly. What will the detailed studies consist of?
• Identification of the critical threats on biodiversity affected by the ongoing developments, management strategies and climate change in Protected areas of Korab Koritnik and Albanian Alps.
• Evidencing the main NTFPs with high economic benefits for the people residing in Protected Areas of Korab Koritnik and Albanian Alps.
• Identification and analyses of the current touristic potential/sites (cultural and natural) and the gaps for tourist services/products in Protected Areas of Korab Koritnik and Albanian Alps
