CNVP Kosovo celebrated World Environment Day (WED) in two municipalities on 5 June 2018, raising awareness about the environment and its effects on daily life.

In Novo Berde, WED was shared with representatives of three local associations of private forest owners (Peja, Suhareka and Novo Berde), the Kosovo Forest Agency and the muncipality. The focus of the event was joint forest management, the environment, the protection and management of natural resources, and the sustainable livelihoods of rural communities.

In Decan, WED was celebrated with school children and teachers of the secondary school Tafil Kasumaj, as well as the National Association of Private Forest Owners, the local association, and municipal representatives. Three students were awarded a book for the best essay on We are friends of the environment. All participants collected plastic bottles near the school, raising awareness about reducing the production and consumption of single-use plastics that pollute the environment.

The two events were held under the framework of the Sida-funded project Strengthening Sustainable Private and Decentralized Forestry that is being implemented by CNVP Kosovo.
