Institutional strengthening for private forest owners

A three day interactive workshop with National Association of Private Forest Owners (NAPFO) and several Associations of Private Forest Owners (APFO) was held in Brezovica from 16-18 November, organized by CNVP Kosovo through the SUNREED project funded by the Embassy of Sweden/Sida.

Among the key issues addressed in the first day of the workshop were strategic document of NAPFO and establishment of the working group for the Rules and Procedures of the organization, and review of the current strategy of the organization. Participants addressed as the well the need for functionalization of NAPFO’s Secretariat and updating the database of private forest owners.

In the second day of the workshop, focus was on elaboration of the needs to simplify procedures for the use of private forests, having policy for support private forestry owners, and local community by providing concrete proposals and recommendations by participants.

The workshop concluded with the presentation on financial schemes for rural development and a session on human rights perspective, gender mainstreaming and anti-corruption.

CNVP’s support for NAPFO and APFO’s will be continued through the project “Sustainable Use of Natural Resources for Environment and Economic Development (SUNREED)”, which aims to contribute to poverty reduction, increase income and jobs derived from forest products such as wood biomass, Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFP) and Medicinal Aromatic Plants.
