CNVP Kosovo is doing a study for the development of market systems for wood biomass, which will serve to draft a roadmap for biomass production, use and market. Special attention is paid to the traceability of wood biomass to ensure that it flows from sustainably managed forest resources.

International and local experts that are engaged in drafting the roadmap presented main findings of the study in a workshop with stakeholders from the relevant sector. They have emphasized that the strategic goal of CNVP is to promote of wood biomass as energy source through implementation of modern and efficient technologies but without additional pressure on forests.

Divided in the groups, participants analyzed Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT analysis) for biomass production, use and market already identified by experts and provided additional ideas which will be used to finalize the roadmap. They have also worked in prioritizing the actions that need to be taken to achieve the increase share of wood biomass as energy source.

CNVP will continue working with all actors of the sector aiming on joint actions in the direction of:

  • Increasing production of wood biomass without putting more pressure on forests;
  • Promoting new, modern and more efficient technologies in wood biomass production and use;
  • Setting up a local production chain.

Through the SUNREED project funded by the Embassy of Sweden, CNVP will support improvement of forest management and the development of a market for forest products, which would contribute to economic growth, job creation, additional income and poverty reduction.
